DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From Santiago Airport

If you look on Google maps you can find Monción, but it's directions are difficult to follow since many of our streets have no signs or go by several names. You can get yourself from Santiago to Mao Valverde via Esperanza following billboard signs. Leaving the airport, take a right, follow signs that say Santiago, Navarette, Mao, and Esperanzay (do not go towards Santo Domingo or Puerto Plata).

 

Once you get into Mao, find "Carretera Santiago Rodriguez." It's a main road that passes right in front of the Mao police/army base. You want to take that heading South. When asking for directions just ask for the directions to Monción if you get lost (which I don't think you will). Take the carretera straight until you get to a check point right by a corner store called Parada Nunez. There is a fork in the road at that store and the sign on the right says "Monción, Cacique." Turn Left. Follow that road straight until you get to Monción. You will pass through a couple smaller towns (los quemados, cacique, los pinos), just continue on the main paved road. When entering Monción you will see a fountain roundabout and the road curves to the left. Continue on that road until you get to the Texaco Gas Station which will be on your right. Park there and give Julia a call. The house is at the end of a "callejon" and is a bit hard to find, she'll walk up and guide you the rest of the way. 

 

 

BUSES & METRO

A. From Santiago Airport
       1)EXPRESS. From the airport get a taxi (~$20US) to Linea Altagracia bus station at 70 Salvador Cucurullo. Linea Alatagracia is a direct bus to Moncion that only runs twice a day, Mon-Sat, 10am and 5pm. The cost is 200 pesos. It does not run on Sundays. Make sure it is the Luis Mendez bus- their number is: 809-582-4065. Ask to be dropped off at "Tomas Genao en tienda Variedades Taveras".
       
        2)LOCAL. From the airport get a taxi (~150pesos) to "parada 30 de marzo" bus station. Take the Bello Altardecer "Espreso a Mao" to Mao for 120 pesos. Ask to get dropped off "donde puede coger la guagua a Moncion." From there get on the van to Moncion (~60pesos) and ask to get dropped off at "Tomas Genao en tienda Variedades Taveras"

 

B. From the Puerto Plata Airport:
            There is a direct bus from Puerto Plata to Mao. You would take the
CaribeTours bus to Mao and once there ask for the "parada de guaguas de moncion". The vans that go to Moncion from Mao run pretty
frequently. The stop is front of the "fortaleza" which is a military fort. Once on the "guagua" to Moncion asked to be dropped off at "Tomas Genao en tienda Variedades Taveras"

 

C. From the Santo Domingo:

            1)EXPRESS. From Santo Domingo you will take a bus "Linea Gladys" at 13:00 (1pm) or 15:00 (3pm) from San Martín No.194, casi esquina M Gomez (ph:809-752-9336) to Monción for $400 RD pesos per person (ask to be dropped off at "Tomas Genao en variedades taveras") (this trip is 3.5 hours)

           

            2)LOCAL. Take Santo Domingo Caribe Tours bus from Av. 27 de Febrero (ph: 809-221-4422) heading to Valverde Mao C/Sanchez esquina Emilio (ph:809-572-3691) for $320 RD pesos per person (this trip is 3 hours long). From Mao we can send someone to pick you all up for $1000 RD pesos or you can catch a guagua to Monción for $60 RD pesos per person (ask "donde esta la parada de las guaguas a Monción") And ask to be dropped off at "Tomas Genao en Variedades Taveras"

 

D. From the Samana Peninsula:

            OPTION 1: take 2 buses

You will take a Caribe Tour bus at 10:00AM from Av. Malecon, Samaná (ph: 809-538-2229) to Santo Domingo Av. 27 de Febrero (ph: 809-221-4422) for $310 RD pesos per person (this trip is 2.5 hours long)

From Santo Domingo you will take a bus "Linea Gladys" at 15:00 (3pm) from San Martín No.194, casi esquina M Gomez (ph:809-752-9336) to Monción for $400 RD pesos per person (ask to be dropped off at "Tomas Genao en variedades taveras") (this trip is 3.5 hours)

 

           OPTION 2: take 2 buses and a ride

You will take a Caribe Tour bus at 10:00AM from Av. Malecon, Samaná (ph: 809-538-2229) to Santo Domingo Av. 27 de Febrero (ph: 809-221-4422) for $310 RD pesos per person (this trip is 2.5 hours long)

From the Caribe Tours Santo Domingo stop you will take a second bus to Valverde Mao C/Sanchez esquina Emilio (ph:809-572-3691) for $320 RD pesos per person (this trip is 3 hours long)

From Mao we can send someone to pick you up for $1000 RD pesos or you can catch a guagua to Monción for $60 RD pesos per person (ask "donde esta la parada de las guaguas a Monción") And ask to be dropped off at "Tomas Genao en variedades taveras"
